Protein Shake Ingredients
3-4 tablespoons of Vanilla Greek Yogurt1 scoop of casein protein powder (flavor of your choice)
1/4-1/2 cup of milk or water
Directions
Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl and stir vigorously for 30 seconds or so until you reach your desired texture. It should have the consistency of pudding and be blended into a consistent color based on the protein that you are using.
Protein shakes are great for getting some quick digesting proteins and enzymes into your body. They also make a great snack on the go. But there’s something to be said about digesting hard foods and allowing your body to go through the digestive process.
One solution that I have came up with for this is making some quick protein packed pudding from casein protein. This is slow digesting and is one of my favorite treats for breakfast or right before bed. It will keep your metabolism moving and keep you full for hours. It’s a great alternative to other nighttime snacks that I find myself reaching for like oatmeal (too carb heavy), ice cream (yeah…) or cereal.
My favorite thing about this particular recipe is how amazingly simple it is and how quickly you can make a batch. A lot of protein heavy recipes require tons of different ingredients that are cause for a special trip to the supermarket. When it’s late and you are hungry for something clean, you need something that’s already in the kitchen. This casein pudding only required three simple ingredients. It’s a foolproof recipe that anybody can make easily.
There are tons of different combinations for protein pudding out there but this is the one that I’ve found to work best for me. As I mentioned, the simplicity and speed makes it perfect for any time of the day.
The big choice you’ll have to make is which type and brand of protein powder to use. You could try this recipe with whey or soy protein, but I wouldn’t recommend that. Casein blends really well with our foods and is great for baking or blending into a pudding-type mixture. You’ll have a bit of trouble getting the right consistency with a whey or soy based protein.
Personally, I use Optimum Nutrition Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough casein powder for most of my pudding dishes. It’s the most tasty of all the casein options out there and is perfect for protein pudding! Any flavor of casein will work for this though. Some others I’d recommend: chocolate, vanilla, peanut butter, strawberry, smore’s.
Which Brand Of Casein Works Best?
There are tons of different brands of casein or whey-casein blend. One other one that I use frequently is GNC’s ReFeed Protein Blend. I don’t like the taste as much but the night time recovery blend in it is a nice plus if you are eating this during the evening. No matter what flavor or brand you get, any casein or casein blend should do the trick. You have plenty of options.
