A smoothie bowl needs less liquid than a drink. Start with a small amount and add more only if the blender stalls. The result should be thick enough that a spoon stands up in it.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving.
- 2 medium frozen bananas
- 1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder (about 30 g)
- ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp chopped almonds
- 1 tbsp unsweetened shredded coconut
- ½ medium banana
Method
- Break the frozen bananas into chunks and add them to the blender with the almond milk.
- Add the protein powder and cocoa.
- Blend, stopping to scrape down the sides and push the banana toward the blades, until thick and smooth.
- Spoon into a bowl and top with sliced banana, almonds, and coconut.

Tips
- Add the liquid a tablespoon at a time. Too much turns the bowl into a milkshake.
- A tamper helps if your blender has one. Otherwise, pause and stir.
Swaps and variations
- Use peanut butter chips or cacao nibs as toppings.
- Use plant protein for a vegan bowl.
