Unsweetened acai puree comes in frozen packets in the freezer aisle. It has an earthy, slightly chocolatey berry flavor and very little sugar. With banana and berries it tastes like the smoothie-bar version, with more protein.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving.
- 1 scoop vanilla plant protein powder (pea/rice blend, about 32 g)
- 1 packet unsweetened acai puree (100 g)
- ½ cup frozen mixed berries
- ½ medium banana
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
Method
- Run the acai packet under warm water for 10 seconds to loosen it, then break it into the blender.
- Add the almond milk, protein powder, berries, banana, and chia.
- Blend on high for a full minute, until completely smooth.
- Let the smoothie sit for a minute so the chia thickens it slightly.

Tips
- Check that the acai is unsweetened. Sweetened packets add a lot of sugar.
- Add the chia last and drink the smoothie soon after. It gets gel-like if it sits for too long.
Swaps and variations
- Use a whole banana for a sweeter smoothie.
- Pour into a bowl and add granola for a smoothie bowl.
