Almond Butter Banana Shake

A mellow breakfast shake where mild almond butter lets the banana come through, with a pinch of cinnamon.

Almond Butter Banana Shake

Almond butter is milder than peanut butter, so the banana flavor comes through. A bit of cinnamon keeps the shake from tasting flat. It is thick and filling for a shake under a few hundred calories.

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving.

  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (about 30 g)
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 1 medium banana
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 ice cubes

Method

  1. Add the milk and almond butter to the blender.
  2. Add the protein powder, banana, cinnamon, and ice.
  3. Blend on high for 40 seconds.
  4. Pour and sprinkle a little extra cinnamon on top.

Estimated from standard nutrition data for each ingredient, assuming about 24 g of protein per scoop of whey or casein and 22 g for plant powders. Brands vary, so check your label. Contains: milk, tree nuts.

Tips

  • Use a spotty, ripe banana. Green-tipped bananas taste starchy and less sweet.
  • Stir the almond butter jar well. Separated oil at the top throws off the measurement.

Swaps and variations

  • Use a frozen banana and skip the ice for a thicker shake.
  • Add a spoonful of rolled oats and blend a little longer for a thicker shake.
