Casein protein is made for hot drinks. It thickens when warmed and makes a hot chocolate that tastes more like drinking chocolate. Mix it with cold milk first, then add the hot milk to avoid lumps.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving.
- 1 scoop chocolate casein protein powder (about 33 g)
- 1 ¼ cups 2% milk
- 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
- ¼ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
Method
- Whisk the casein and cocoa with a quarter cup of cold milk in a mug until smooth.
- Heat the remaining milk until steaming, around 150°F (65°C).
- Pour the hot milk slowly into the paste, whisking the whole time.
- Stir in the maple syrup, vanilla, and salt.
