Maple Vanilla Oat Shake

A warm-tasting shake of maple, oats, and vanilla for a cold morning.

Maple Vanilla Oat Shake

Maple and oats are a natural breakfast pairing. This shake tastes like a bowl of maple oatmeal, served cold and drinkable. Walnuts on top add crunch, and a pinch of salt keeps the maple from tasting flat.

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving.

  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (about 30 g)
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • ¼ cup rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp chopped walnuts
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 ice cubes

Method

  1. Add the milk and oats to the blender and let them soften for two minutes.
  2. Add the protein powder, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, and ice.
  3. Blend until smooth, about 60 seconds.
  4. Top with chopped walnuts.

Tips

  • Use real maple syrup. Pancake syrup tastes artificial in a shake.
  • A pinch of salt makes the maple flavor stronger.

Swaps and variations

  • Use pecans in place of the walnuts.
  • Use brown sugar in place of the maple syrup for a molasses flavor.
