Tahini is ground sesame paste, and with dates it tastes like halva, the sesame candy. This shake uses plant protein, so it stays vegan. Add a pinch of cardamom if you have it, because it pulls the flavors together.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving.
- 1 scoop vanilla plant protein powder (pea/rice blend, about 32 g)
- 1 cup oat milk
- 1 tbsp tahini
- 2 Medjool dates, pitted
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground cardamom
- 4 ice cubes
Method
- Pit the dates and blend them with the oat milk for 30 seconds.
- Add the protein powder, tahini, cinnamon, cardamom, and ice.
- Blend until smooth, about 45 seconds.
- Taste and add another half date if you want it sweeter.

Tips
- Stir the tahini jar well. The oil rises to the top and the paste at the bottom can be very thick.
- Tahini can be bitter. A good brand tastes nutty and mild.
Swaps and variations
- Add a tablespoon of cocoa for a chocolate halva shake.
- Use a vanilla whey protein if you do not need the shake to be vegan.
