Mixed Berry Protein Smoothie

A thick, tart smoothie of frozen berries and Greek yogurt that works for breakfast or after a workout.

Mixed Berry Protein Smoothie

A bag of frozen mixed berries is one of the most useful things in the freezer. The fruit is already cold, so the smoothie comes out thick without ice, and the yogurt adds protein and a little tang.

Ingredients

Makes 1 serving.

  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (about 30 g)
  • ½ cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt
  • ¾ cup 2% milk
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 tbsp honey

Method

  1. Add the milk and yogurt to the blender, then the protein powder.
  2. Add the frozen berries and honey.
  3. Blend on high for 45 to 60 seconds, stopping once to push the berries toward the blades.
  4. Taste and add a little more honey if the berries are very tart.

Tips

  • Frozen berries are as nutritious as fresh and usually cheaper. Skip the ice entirely.
  • Berry seeds stay in the smoothie. A high-speed blender breaks them down more fully.

Swaps and variations

  • Use only frozen blueberries for a deep purple smoothie.
  • Use kefir in place of the yogurt for a tangier, thinner smoothie.
